About
Amanda Davies was born and raised Eastern Massachusetts, and now attends the Maryland Institute College of Art in pursuit of BFA in General Fine Art with a concentration in Photography. Davies found her artistic beginnings in photography, taking a darkroom photography class her freshman year of high school, declaring to her mother she was going to art school two weeks later and never looking back. Spending most of her high school career in her school’s photography classroom ignoring the rules of darkroom photography, this experimental practice has followed her well into her college years and current mixed media practice. Most interested in painting and photography, she is constantly striving to combine the two mediums in different ways. Her paintings are often a mixture of an abstract representation of the world around her and her own version of a self portrait. Her work is a combination of a cathartic practice and an attempt to create a new way of looking at the world around her.
